Meridia the popular diet drug, prescribed to an estimated nine million patients has been linked with 29 deaths, including 19 from heart attacks and 397 serious side effects such as arrhythmia and high blood pressure. The use of Meridia has been suspended in Italy because of two heart attack deaths. Other European countries, France and Great Britain, have reported a total of 103 serious adverse reactions by people using the drug, including two deaths in Britain.
